Hello Hokkaido! Farm Restaurant Azemichi Yorimichi in Furano (Kamifurano) あぜ道より道ファームレストラン - 16 June 2016

Hello Hokkaido! Farm Restaurant Azemichi Yorimichi in Furano (Kamifurano) あぜ道より道ファームレストラン

Before leaving Furano, we wanted to try out for the last time good curry in the area. We googled and found an interesting recommendation in Google with consistently good reviews.

The website of the restaurant is this:
We were amused by the cute photos in the homepage – apparently it’s run by a group of female farmers. The vegetables are freshly harvested and they offer what they can get from the day before. It is truly a joy to enjoy the freshest vegetables!
The restaurant operates from 10 am to 4 pm (Last order 3.30 pm). Take note they are closed on Wednesdays.
The restaurant is situated far out in the fields so it may be a challenge to find.
Here is the telephone number for your GPS (Japanese Navi):
Telephone: 0167 45 3060
Map code: 349 251 398
And here’s a picture for you to identify.

Very beautiful setting in the farmlands – picturesque!

The welcoming path to the restaurant.
You can really tell it’s female-owned by the care taken in the decorations and the kawaii-design. In the interior of tons of slippers – you will need to take off of shoes, so do wear nice socks!
Owners of the restaurant – all female! (Or the guys are too shy to pose in it)

Little counter with the kitchen welcoming you into the restaurant.
We were led upstairs where most of the seating is – and the view above is nicer too!
We chose a table by the windows where we had a good view and we could look down at the only table downstairs.
The menu for the day:
The most popular dish here is the curry vegetables with rice – using seasonal vegetables from the fields as and when.
We were particularly also drawn by this:
What! Only 10 sets available per day – how could we missed. The table next to us ordered 2 sets.
Hence, we ordered this and the curry vegetables set with bacon. (Essentially, it’s just the popular set with additional bacon)
It wasn’t a long wait – salads were served first.
Looks so yummy! What a spread of fresh vegetables.
This purple vegetable was crunchy – was either yam or radish.
Pink vegetable – definitely radish.
So yum yum! And healthy. The salads were so fresh and refreshing to the palate.
Our main dishes came while we were enjoying the salads.
Very plain yet appetising to the eye. When vegetables are cooked so fresh with minimal seasoning – the visual already kicks up a good appetite.
Note that the limited boiled vegetable set does not come with rice, but you could easily order a bowl if you want. I wanted rice initially, but I noted that there was a potato in the soup which could be filling.
The boiled bacon in the soup was fatty yet not oily. I wouldn’t mind eating it even though I don’t take fat like that usually. The taste was so natural!
Purple potato! So crunchy….
I bet you never thought the pictures of fresh vegetables can actually be so appetising!
As for the curry,
These are fried potato chips from the field… yum yum! So fresh and original – light to the taste and very lightly salted.
Bacon was as yummy as the boiled one – suspect it’s boiled as well for the healthy emphasis.
Traditional Japanese styled curry – thick and sweet, not spicy. We loved this version compared to Yuiga Duxon – which has elements of South-east Asian/Indian curry – more spicy. This is after all a traditional Japanese restaurant.
After the satisfying meal, we took a walk around but the winds were too strong. There were little cabins outside the restaurant.
We later discovered they were available for rental in summer – each cabin was only 5,000 JPY only for 4 – 5 pax! But they are not listed in any English accommodation site so you will have to call them and speak in Japanese...
Verdict:
I would highly recommend this place – YAy! Two capital letters YAy.
The vegetables served here are the freshest you can find – I think I have never had such fresh vegetables to date – direct from the fields and cooked so organically. The style is very homely and delicious, without the fine dining pretence yet food is very high quality. You really feel you are at home since you have to take off your shoes as well. The server is also so warm and smiley.
The curry is a definitely must-try since it utilises all the fresh vegetables and traditional style curry. You may like to go for the bacon set if you prefer meat.
We visited in late Spring/early Summer so it was not so crowded yet, but I heard it is crowded during summer and weekends, so plan your schedules well – especially if you want to try the vegetables set – which I highly recommend!
The only reason why I didn’t give full capitals yay was because it is considered far and only people with cars can visit. It’s not near the station either, so it’s a bummer for those who are not driving.
Let me know your experience after your visit!
