Hello Hokkaido! Légumes Restaurant Asperges Biei レストランアスペルジュ13 June 2016
Légumes Restaurant Asperges is basically a French restaurant located in Biei, Hokkaido. We were wondering if we should try eating French food in Japan but were tempted immediately after reading so much positive reviews on this exceptional restaurant and knowing that it is awarded 1-Star Michelin. The restaurant is helmed by Chef Kato Kazunori and part of the group which includes Moliere Cafe (3 Michelin Star) in Sapporo.
We arrived at about 7 pm and was greeted by a delightful building in the heart of quiet Biei. It looked pretty expensive.
The interior was equally stunning.
There were 3 menus ranging from 2600 to 4600 yen. Inexpensive, considering its impeccable reputation. During summer, it might be hard to even reserve a table especially during lunch. But we reserved a table for dinner through our concierge 2 months in advance. However, the restaurant was barely filled and almost dead silent.
We had the 4600 yen set which includes their famed 20 types of vegetables dish. We were blown apart by the creative colourful arrangement of all the dishes and most importantly, the taste. It was sublime. Perhaps these pictures will paint a better picture than my superlatives.
All in all, we were very impressed with the attentive service (as with all fine dining meals), the creative display and excellent meals. Our favourite was the steak. The meal is faultless - well maybe it can be better if I can have my corn soup to start of with :)
Will recommend Asperges to get a 'break' from all the delicious Japanese cuisines.
Verdict: YAy!

'Supreme trempette' - okay, nice start... |
'Biei no Hatake' - 20 types of vegetables - nom nom nom |
Potato bread |
Puree of potatoes - smooth and creamy |
'Up bouillie Biei production d'asperges' - A simple yet elegant dish of steamed Asparagus dipped with Asparagus sauce. |
'Grillade de Biei longe de porc' - Wagyu was so tender and soft that melted in our mouth. |
'Tomates Mini et compote de fruits' - smooth ice cream with some raspberry-like sauce with wine mixed with cherries and mint |
Pretty, isn't this? |
'haricot noir Chocolat' - Basically, marshmallows with bitter chocolate chunk |
Will recommend Asperges to get a 'break' from all the delicious Japanese cuisines.
